Who we are - Allan Martin - Founder
The Classic Lions were born in 1997 when the Celtic Barbarians Rugby Team (Wales/Ireland/Scotland) were joined by England, to play in the World Rugby Classics, Bermuda.
The Lions represent legends of British & Irish rugby. Former Internationals / professional players who have played at the highest level. Many players who now retired from the professional game, But are still in good shape and are capable of competing.
In order to qualify to play for the Lions, players must be over the age of 33 years and retired from international rugby for a min of twelve months.
Through Classics Rugby these players can remain fit and active and remain in the game until they can call it a day under their terms.
The Lions are a force to be re conned with and are the ‘best of the best’. We have won & lost as a team. We have tasted great success, and even better beer. Showed sportsmanship, team spirit and provided the rugby world with great enjoyment.
